The former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has been nominated for the position of the Deputy Senate President.
Ekweremadu’s nomination came as surprise. He however vowed to work with the new Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege had earlier been nominated for the position. Few minutes ago, report has it that Senator Ahmad Lawan has emerged the new Senate President to lead the 9th Senate.
This was after an election that saw him defeat his rival Ali Ndume. Ahmad Lawan got 79 votes while Ali Ndume got 28. The voting took place today at the National Assembly with all stakeholders gathered.
Ahmad Lawan emerged the new Senate President despite endorsement of Ali Ndume from the opposition party the PDP. If Ekweremadu emerges his deputy, this will mean a big win for the opposition PDP.
